Albuquerque is a lucky city because it boasts two sewing lounges.
Hip Stitch, started by three creative and like-minded friends and inspired by Stitch Lounge, formerly in San Francisco, is located on the North East side of town. The Designers' Lounge, a mother-daughter venture, is located on the South East side of town. And even better, both lounges complement each other.
Hip Stitch carries a collection of notions, some patterns and books, as well as a large selection of cotton fabrics designed by Alexander Henry, Michael Miller, and Amy Butler, to name a few. They also have basic sewing classes, as well as project based classes. Another nice feature is their open sewing times, where you can work on your own projects.
The
Designer's Lounge carries a small collection of notions, and upscale fabrics such as cotton, wool and silk. They have basic and more advanced sewing classes, ranging from how to read a pattern, to learning how to drape a garment. Also, they offer private lessons for any of their listed classes.

Both lounges have a friendly atmosphere and lots of reference materials to inspire your creativity, whatever your age and/or sewing level.
