
Meet Derek Dominy and Denise Carbonell - one a metal smith, the other a mixed media artist. Their studio "Metal and Thread is a quaint little place at 398 Van Brunt Street in Red Hook,Brooklyn. Derek and Denise both love to work with different mediums. Lately, Derek has been creating metal tables and Denise black quilts.
Derek brings old world craftsmanship to the modern world. He learned ancient arts-like chainmail and forging while apprenticing at the oldest working forge in Manhattan. Denise has worked with designers such as Perry Ellis and Willi Smith. She was fashion editor of a magazine of Malcolm Forbes called Egg. She also has owned her own restaurant and clothing line.
